The principles of GYROKINES®

Rhythm, breath, and spiraling movements are the key elements set by Julio Horvath, founder of the method, to enhance body’s natural capacity for movement and expression

1. Rhythm: exercises are performed in a flowing, continuous manner, with movements seamlessly transitioning from one to the next. This rhythmic quality promotes a sense of fluidity and grace, enhancing coordination and body awareness.

2. Breath: Conscious breathing is integrated into  practice, with specific patterns coordinated with movement sequences. Deep, synchronized breaths help oxygenate the body, increase energy flow, and facilitate relaxation, allowing for a deeper connection between mind and body.

3. Spiraling Movements: Gyrotonic movements are characterized by circular, spiraling patterns that follow the natural pathways of the body. These movements promote spinal mobility, joint articulation, and muscular activation in multiple planes of motion, resulting in improved flexibility, posture, and alignment.

GYROKINESIS® Classes

In a Gyrokinesis class, the principles of rhythm, breath, and spiraling movements are integrated seamlessly to create a dynamic and invigorating experience. Classes can take place in various settings, including indoor studios or outdoor environments such as gardens, beaches, or terraces, allowing practitioners to connect with nature and their surroundings.

Participants typically gather with a stool and a mat, ready to immerse themselves in the practice. The class begins with a gentle warm-up, focusing on deep, rhythmic breathing to center the mind and oxygenate the body. The instructor guides students through a series of fluid movements, demonstrating the circular and spiraling patterns characteristic of Gyrokinesis.

As participants follow along, they synchronize their breath with each movement, fostering a sense of mindfulness and awareness. The exercises are designed to promote spinal mobility, joint flexibility, and muscular strength, encouraging participants to explore the full range of motion in their bodies.

Throughout the class, the instructor provides verbal cues and adjustments to ensure proper alignment and technique, empowering students to move safely and effectively. The session concludes with a cool-down segment, allowing participants to relax and integrate the benefits of their practice.

Overall, a Gyrokinesis class offers a holistic approach to movement, combining elements of rhythm, breath, and spiraling movements to promote physical well-being, mental clarity, and a deeper connection to oneself and the natural world.

Gyrokinesis classes are adapted to fit each student’s age, needs and abilities from those recovering from injury or living with a disability to elite athletes.

GETTING STARTED

The Gyrokinesis method is practiced on a mat and a chair, without equipment. Without the feedback and guidance of equipment, participants in a Gyrokinesis class are more dependent on their own proprioception to explore movement sequences.

The Gyrotonic methodology uses your body’s natural spherical and spiraling movement patterns to decompress and strengthen your entire spine. Not only is your spine the foundation for all movement; many believe it is the structural foundation for good health.

The GYROTONIC® workout

The Gyrotonic workout consists of progressively challenging exercise modules that promote joint mobility. Its multi-directional, circular movements make you less vulnerable to injuries, stress and micro-traumas by increasing your spinal column functional ability. Being able to complete multiple joint movements without compression gives the body extraordinary flexibility and capability.

The GYROTONIC® principles

At the practice’s heart are seven spinal movement principles which also stimulate the nervous system, creating a sense of balance in the body: bending forward – extending backward – side-bending the right – side-bending to the left – rotating to the right – rotating to the left – articulated, circular motion. Gyrotonic principles offer similar benefits also found in yoga, dance, swimming and martial arts. Through speed and endurance variations, you can create an actual simulation of sport activity.

The GYROTONIC® program

The program uses undulating and rhythmical exercises to work systematically and softly on joints and muscles, building core and lean muscle strength, while nourishing the body with focused breath work. Every exercise is synchronized with a specific type of breathing pattern, which builds breathing endurance. Advanced programs utilize both delicate and vigorous cardiovascular and aerobic rhythms.

The Art of Exercising and Beyond ®

For many years Sales Manager in multinational environments, Monica approaches Gyrotonic in 2017 as a customer of Gyrotonic Eur in Rome, thus starting her path to regain shape and psychophysical well-being.
A degree in chemistry and professional expertise in allopathic medicine are the basis for deepening both movement training, and therapeutic approaches to self-healing.

Under the guidance of the expert and generous Trainers Jennifer and Marco at https://gyrotonic-eur.com/ in Rome, Monica in 2020 becomes Trainer of Gyrotonic Level 1 and, increasingly motivated to transmit to others the transformational benefits of the method Gyrotonic Expansion System, in 2022 she challenges  herself certifying as Gyrokinesis Trainer.

To better explore and exploit the wellbeing potential of the Gyrotonic method,  Monica  further specialises in Therapeutic Applications and in learning the principles of the the method in the contest of ostheopaty, in line with her practice as a therapist.

Her motto is “Gyrotonic is magical for everyone and I am living proof of it!”  because anybody, in his possibilities, can benefit from it, improve performance and gain balance, strength and grace.
With the opening of Holistic Point,  her mission is to help people to know and practice the method so that, like her, they can find/ magnify the pleasure of movement and listening to one’s body.
